John Clarke II

John Clarke II (d. 1675) was M.P. of Cockermouth.[1] He had been an agent of Josceline Percy, 11th Earl of Northumberland.[2] Clarke purchased land in Chirton from Ralph Reed in 1672.[3] He built Chirton Hall with materials from the demolished Warkworth Castle.[4][5] Clarke's widow, Jane (d. 1694), married Philip Bickerstaffe, M.P. for Berwick-upon-Tweed 1685;[6] and later for Northumberland.[7]
